今週、バイデン大統領が暗号通貨などデジタル資産に関する包括的な戦略を実行する大統領令に署名しました。この大統領令は「米国の競争力とリーダーシップを推進し、デジタル資産技術を活用する」ための包括的なフレームワークを開発するよう商務省に指示しており、「デジタルドル」と呼ばれる中央銀行FRBが発行のデジタル通貨の研究も含まれます。これまで暗号通貨の扱いも曖昧さがありましたが、この大統領令で暗号通貨で米国がリードしていく環境が揃いました。

ロシアをSWIFTから遮断する制裁で改めて金融力に焦点が当たっていますが、通貨がデジタル化された世界でも金融覇権を握ろうとする意志の現れと言えます。

This week, President Biden signed an Executive Order implementing a comprehensive strategy for digital assets, including cryptocurrencies. The Executive Order directs the Department of Commerce to develop a comprehensive framework to "promote U.S. competitiveness and leadership and leverage digital asset technologies," including research into a digital currency issued by the central bank, the Fed, called the "digital dollar." Until now, there has also been ambiguity in the treatment of cryptocurrencies, but this Executive Order creates an environment for the U.S. to take the lead in cryptocurrencies.

The sanctions to block Russia from SWIFT have brought financial power into focus once again, and this is a manifestation of the will to gain financial supremacy even in a world where currencies have been digitized.
