Thanksgiving休暇と日本への一時帰国の関係で２週間配信が遅れてしまいました。心待ちにして頂いた方、大変お待たせしてすみません。

Thanksgiving明けに、オミクロン株への対応で日本の自己隔離ルールや入国の状況が日々変わり、慌ただしくフライトを早めたりして戻ってきましたが、カリフォルニア州が３日間の強制隔離の対象となってしまったことで、空港から隔離先のホテルに入るのに８時間もかかりました。この体験は本当にひどいもので言いたいことは山ほどあるのですが、日本という国の社会システムについて考える機会にもなりました。

その経緯については、類似の経験をされる方向けに体験記としてまとめてありますので、帰国される知り合いの方がいれば共有して貰えればと思います。

以上のような経緯があり、この80号のニュースのカバー範囲が12月5日までの2週間になります。次号以降でキャッチアップしていきますのでご理解ください。

I'm sorry for the two-week delay due to the Thanksgiving vacation and my temporary return to Japan. I apologize for the delay and thank you for your patience.

After Thanksgiving, I came back to Japan after a hectic flight schedule due to daily changes in Japan's self-quarantine rules and immigration situation in response to the Omicron variant. It took me eight(!) hours to get from the airport to the hotel where I was quarantined. The experience was truly awful and I have a lot to say about it, but it also gave me a chance to think about the social system in Japan.

Because of the above, the news coverage in this issue of 80 will be for two weeks until December 5. Please understand that we will be catching up in the next issue and beyond.
